Volkswagen
From classic Beetles, Buses and Karmann Ghias to GTIs and Golf Rs, Edelweiss Autowerks specializes in the Volkswagens that people actually get excited about.
Our Volkswagen work spans two very different eras of the brand. On one side are the simple, mechanical air-cooled cars that made Volkswagen a household name. On the other are the turbocharged, electronically sophisticated performance cars that continue to earn a loyal following today.
For classic air-cooled Volkswagens, we provide the kind of mechanical service these cars increasingly need as experienced support becomes harder to find. That includes engine and transmission work, carburetor and fuel-system service, valve adjustments, ignition repair, oil-leak correction, cooling-system sealing and tinwork, brakes, suspension, steering, electrical repair, recommissioning and pre-purchase inspections. Whether the car is a regularly driven Beetle or a Bus being brought back after years in storage, our goal is to make it run, drive and stop the way it should.
For modern Volkswagens, our focus is especially strong on enthusiast platforms such as the GTI, Golf R and Jetta GLI. We handle factory-scheduled maintenance, DSG service, timing-chain and cooling-system repairs, carbon cleaning, turbocharger work, suspension and brake upgrades, performance modifications and testing and evaluation of modified vehicles.
These are very different cars, but the philosophy is the same: understand the platform, use the right parts and equipment, and service the car in a way that respects why its owner cares about it in the first place.
Our Volkswagen service offerings are focused on enthusiast-owned, collector, and performance models. For higher-mileage vehicles or cars with significant deferred maintenance, we may recommend a shop better suited to routine repair and budget-focused ownership.
Classic Air-Cooled Volkswagen Service in Madison, WI
Air-cooled Volkswagens are simple cars, but servicing them well requires familiarity that is becoming increasingly hard to find.
That familiarity runs deep at Edelweiss Autowerks. Three members of our staff are air-cooled Volkswagen owners themselves, so these cars are more than something we occasionally see in the shop. We know the quirks, the common shortcuts, the importance of proper adjustment, and the difference between a car that merely runs and one that feels properly sorted.
We service Beetles, Super Beetles, Karmann Ghias, Buses and Transporters, Type 3s, Things and other classic Volkswagen models. Our work ranges from routine maintenance and valve adjustments to carburetor setup, fuel-system repair, ignition work, oil-leak correction, engine and transmission service, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical repair and recommissioning cars that have spent years off the road.
And we are not limited to keeping them exactly as Wolfsburg intended. If your Beetle or Bus could use a little more enthusiasm, we are more than happy to install and sort a hotter engine, upgrade supporting systems, rethink the suspension, or help put together a lower, more aggressive setup, including air suspension where it makes sense. The goal is to build something that looks right, works properly and is still enjoyable to own.
Our in-house interior department also allows us to take these cars beyond the mechanical side. We can repair or replace seat upholstery, headliners, carpeting, door panels and other interior components, whether the goal is a period-correct refresh or a more personalized cabin.
Whether you are preserving an original Volkswagen, sorting out a recently purchased project, waking up a long-stored car or building something with a little more attitude, we can help make it a Volkswagen you actually want to drive.
These cars deserve more than generic old-car service. They deserve a shop that understands them.
Modern Volkswagen Service
The modern Volkswagen side of our shop is built around the cars that made VW a favorite among enthusiasts: GTIs, Golf Rs, Jetta GLIs and other performance-oriented Volkswagen platforms.
Shop Foreman Matt VonKomjathy spent years in the service department at the local Volkswagen dealership, giving our team extensive firsthand experience with Volkswagen systems, service procedures and platform-specific repair. That background is backed by the equipment and software needed to properly service modern VW vehicles, including factory-level scan capability and Volkswagen-specific tooling.
We handle scheduled maintenance, DSG service, cooling-system repairs, timing-chain concerns, carbon buildup, turbocharger issues, suspension and brake work, performance upgrades and testing and evaluation of modified vehicles. We are also comfortable working with cars that have already been tuned or modified, where understanding how the factory systems and aftermarket components interact becomes especially important.
Whether the goal is keeping a stock GTI dependable for the next 100,000 miles or sharpening a Golf R for more serious use, we approach modern Volkswagen service with the same standard we bring to the rest of the shop: correct parts, proper procedures and a clear understanding of the car in front of us.
